LeBron’s Triple-Double Leads Lakers to 136-124 Win Over Grizzlies
Petre Thomas-USA TODAY Sports

The Los Angeles Lakers, powered by LeBron James‘ triple-double and Rui Hachimura ‘s standout performance, overcame the Memphis Grizzlies 136-124 during Wednesday’s NBA action.

This victory, marking their fifth consecutive win, brings the Lakers closer to securing a direct playoff spot by moving within 2.5 games of the Dallas Mavericks in the Western Conference standings.

James highlighted Hachimura’s critical role in the win, especially in Anthony Davis‘ absence due to a knee injury.

“Rui’s ability to shoot and spread the floor was big time for us,” James said. “He just stayed locked in all night.”

D’Angelo Russell and Taurean Prince also contributed significantly to the Lakers’ offense, with Russell adding 23 points to the scoreboard.

Memphis, led by Desmond Bane‘s 26 points and a career-high 16 assists, faced their sixth loss in seven games despite a spirited effort, including a late-game surge that saw Jake LaRavia and Jaren Jackson pushing back against Los Angeles’ lead.

The Lakers’ energetic performance was particularly impressive considering their demanding double-overtime victory against Milwaukee the previous night. Coach Darvin Ham expressed satisfaction with how the team adapted and maintained its intensity.

“We started getting a groove into the game,” Ham said. “We knew coming off the (Bucks) game, this was not going to be a walk in the park.”

Despite Memphis’ efforts to close the gap, the Lakers’ early third-quarter scoring spree proved too much to overcome. Grizzlies coach Taylor Jenkins acknowledged the challenge of containing Hachimura.

“Priority was the paint,” Jenkins said. “Obviously, he was the beneficiary of some great ball movement. We adjusted late, but probably a little late on my part.”

An emotional highlight for the Grizzlies was Brandon Clarke‘s return to the court after recovering from an Achilles injury. Fans warmly received Clarke’s comeback, though his efforts couldn’t steer the team to victory.

“I’m glad to get that first game over with,” Clarke remarked, emphasizing his need to improve stamina.

With the playoffs in sight, the Lakers aim to replicate their late-season success from the previous year, while the Grizzlies look to rebound in their upcoming games.
