Denver Broncos among teams to meet with sleeper quarterback prospect
Michael Hiers John Reed-USA TODAY Sports

The Denver Broncos recently held discussions with quarterback Michael Hiers during Samford’s pro day last month, as reported by KPRC-TV’s Aaron Wilson.

Standing at 6-foot-1 and weighing 215 pounds, Hiers began his collegiate career at Murray State before transferring to Northwest Mississippi Community College in 2020. During his two seasons at NMCC, Hiers showcased his talent by amassing 4,519 passing yards and 34 touchdowns.

Subsequently, Hiers made another transfer, this time to Samford in 2022. Throughout his tenure with the Bulldogs, spanning two years, Hiers exhibited remarkable prowess by tallying 6,600 passing yards and 54 touchdowns, with just 12 interceptions, across 24 games.

Additionally, he contributed six rushing touchdowns during his time at Samford.

Despite his impressive statistics at the FCS level, Hiers is currently not expected to be selected in the upcoming NFL draft.

However, the 24-year-old quarterback could potentially become a late-round prospect for the Broncos, particularly if they are in the market for a third- or fourth-string quarterback to join their training camp. Alternatively, Denver might consider Hiers as a candidate for their rookie minicamp tryouts.

This move by the Denver Broncos reflects a similar approach they took in 2021 when they invited Case Cookus to their rookie camp. Although Cookus didn’t have a prolonged stint with Denver, he has since found success as a starter in the United Football League.

Hiers may harbor hopes of following a similar career trajectory post-college.
