Tom Brady reacts to success of 49ers' Brock Purdy

Living legend Tom Brady knows a little something about the successes San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy has enjoyed early into Purdy's career.

"You don't hear of guys like Brock Purdy until Brock Purdy's doing amazing things out on the field, so it's kind of a fun story and I hope it continues for him because he seems like he's a really humble young man, and he wants to go out there and do great things," Brady said during the latest edition of his "Let's Go!" SiriusXM show and podcast, per Angelina Martin of NBC Sports Bay Area. "I think the more you have that chip on your shoulder like he does, and there were not quite the expectations, it's nice to go out there and continue to prove people wrong."

Brady grew up a 49ers fan in San Mateo, Calif., and famously fell to the sixth round of the 2000 NFL Draft before the New England Patriots selected him with overall pick No. 199. He went on to win seven career Super Bowl titles and is widely regarded as the sport's most accomplished star.

Purdy, meanwhile, was the final choice of the 2022 draft and has thus far has won all 12 of the games he's started and finished healthy (including the playoffs) as a pro. According to ESPN stats, the 23-year-old enters Week 6 of this season leading the NFL among qualified players with an 83.6 adjusted QBR and a 123.1 passer rating. As of Wednesday afternoon, OddsChecker listed Purdy as third among the betting favorites at +700 odds to earn Most Valuable Player honors.

Brady is a three-time regular-season and five-time Super Bowl MVP.

"Because of the world of promotion, self-promotion, there's a lot of hype built into a lot of things," Brady added about Purdy during his comments. "He's kind of under the radar, but he just goes about his job, and I think a lot of people can really respect that in a lot of different industries. It's nice to have people who can show up every day, put the team first, do what they're asked to do, and he's done a good job of that. He's really exceeding a lot of people's expectations."

The 5-0 49ers next play at a 2-2 Cleveland Browns side Sunday that may be without quarterback Deshaun Watson due to a rotator cuff contusion.
