Athletic Club have kept alive their hopes of a UEFA Champions League qualification spot in a 2-0 win at Getafe.

The Basque side are in a direct battle with Atletico Madrid for fourth place in La Liga in the campaign run in.

Atletico Madrid have the current edge but the race could got to the final weekend of the season.

The visitors seized the best opening of a tight battle in Madrid as Nico Williams teed up his brother Inaki, with a long range strike giving the away side the lead.

Getafe were frustrated by the officials, as they were denied penalty shouts, either side of the break.

The Williams brothers repeated the trick again before the hour mark as Nico’s clever pass was steered home by Inaki.

Athletic Club were forced to battle on in the closing stages, with more penalty appeals rejected for Getafe, and Yeray Alvarez sent off for a deliberate handball.

In the chaotic final minutes, Aitor Paredes’ dismissal reduced Athletic Club to nine players, before Mason Greenwood was denied from the penalty spot.
